ELYSE ROSCOE
Music Educator

I returned home from school to find my mother sitting on the couch. As I set my backpack down to debrief about my day, my mother asked me what I had learned in school. What did I learn? I pondered the various activities I completed in class that day and struggled to explain any meaning to the work I accomplished. My young mind began to contemplate, knowing there was more to education than completing nugatory work to satisfy a standard merely. As an educator, I desire and have the privilege to create a curriculum that connects to students' culture, imagination, and personal goals. While teaching fundamental musical concepts, I aim to foster discovery in the classroom through creativity and freedom of expression. Students will remain at the center of my focus by designing a flexible curriculum that adapts to student needs, forging equal opportunities for all students, and nurturing a safe space to ask questions and learn from mistakes. My overwhelming love for people is the core of my motivation to teach. My enthusiasm for education drives me to expand outside what I have learned in the classroom and invariably seek unique ways to bring content to life.
